ARMENIAN RIGHTS COUNCIL OF AMERICA
STATEMENT Re AZERI MILITARY OPERATIONS
September 27, 2020
For the last three decades, the Armenian Rights Council of America has resolved to pursue a peaceful resolution of the conflict between Armenia, the Republic of Artsakh and Azerbaijan and continuously rejected the military option.
However, we have also been equally determined to preserve the rights of the Armenian people, to uphold the inalienable right of self-determination in Nagorno Karabakh and to protect the peace without concessions on essential issues and the dignity of the Armenian people.
But even though the military option has always been rejected by all Armenians, it is obvious now that Azerbaijan, yet again, with the support of Turkey and its mercenaries have opted for war. And in light of that choice, our people find themselves with only one option, with no alternatives, and that is: self-preservation and self-defense. Self-preservation without regard to the sacrifices to be endured; and self-defense, without doubts, or any hesitation, as one people, and in an unwavering manner.
Thus, The Armenian Rights Council of America strongly condemns the most recent, ill-advised military adventure by Azerbaijan, supported by Turkey; a military escalation that will neither resolve the dispute, nor contribute to stability and peace in the region. We call on the US government as well as on the world community to act immediately and firmly by exerting diplomatic pressure on both Azerbaijan and Turkey to stem their aggressive stance. The prolongation of this military aggression will, without any doubt, lead to disastrous consequences and complicate things further.
Once more, the hard-earned peace process has been the victim of the Azeri aggression. Nevertheless, our people remain resolved to try to save that process and determined to have a peaceful resolution. But let there be no doubt, a just peace cannot be built on military aggression and be at the expense of our people’s dignity and fundamental rights.
The Pan-Armenian Council of the Western United States strongly condemns the latest war launched by Azerbaijan against the free and independent states of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). We further condemn the ongoing shameless support of the authoritarian Azerbaijan’s aggression by the Armenophobic and genocidal Government of Turkey.
While Armenia and Artsakh relentlessly work toward peace and dialogue, Azerbaijan rolls the drums of war. As always, the Armenian-American community stands united in its unequivocal support of the people and governments of Armenia and Artsakh. This support is complete and unconditional, as the dual Armenian states defend themselves against the existential threat consistently posed by their bellicose neighbors.
We salute the brave soldiers of the Armenian Armed Forces, as well as the Defense Army of Artsakh who continue to preserve the territorial integrity and safety of their respective states and civilian populations.
We also call on the international community, including and specifically our friends in the US Congress, as well as the President of the United States and the US Department of State, to condemn the latest attacks by Azerbaijan, and to reinstate Section 907 of the United States Freedom Support Act, banning all direct US assistance to Azerbaijan.
We continue to adhere to the motto of “One Nation, One Cause”, as we understand that our nation collectively shares One Future. We will continue to monitor the situation, as we mobilize and deploy all of the resources of our community, to assist the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh.
We call upon all our community to assist the humanitarian needs created by the war, by donating generously to ArmeniaFund.org/Donate. Also, we urge everyone to take part in the community-wide protest to be held on Wednesday, September 30th at 6:00 PM in front of the Consulate of Azerbaijan.
